LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR (LPC)

Brandon Guzman, LPC, NCC

Hi, my name is Brandon Guzman, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and doctoral student in Oregon State University’s Counseling Education and Supervision PhD program. I am a proud second-generation Latino, the son of immigrant parents from Honduras and El Salvador. I am the first in my family to earn a master’s degree and now the first to pursue a doctorate. I carry with me my family’s resilience, sacrifices, and hopes for a better future, and I hope to foster that in the work I do with my clients.

I identify as a gay, able-bodied, cisgender male, and I know firsthand the importance of community, identity, and chosen family. These experiences have deeply shaped my approach as a counselor. I specialize in supporting Latine and LGBTQ+ communities; however, since I was 14, I have dreamed of helping anyone in need of care, healing, and growth.

My path to becoming a therapist has been an adventure. While I once thought my dream job would be becoming a Pokémon trainer at the age of 6, reality had other plans for me. Counseling has become the most meaningful journey of all. Instead of raising Pokémon, I now walk alongside people as they navigate challenges, rediscover their strengths, and grow into the best versions of themselves.

Professionally, I bring over 10 years of experience in behavioral health, including 3 years working as a therapist. My background includes supporting adults with developmental disabilities, working with children on the autism spectrum, spending the past several years in crisis work, and currently working in a psychiatric hospital. These experiences continue to fuel my passion for clinical practice and for my aspiration to become a counselor educator who can train and mentor future therapists.

Therapeutically, I draw from Solution-Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Learning these models not only shaped my clinical work but also transformed my own life. My confidence in their effectiveness inspires me to integrate them into sessions, offering clients tools for meaningful change while honoring their unique strengths and stories.

At the heart of my counseling is a commitment to cultural humility, advocacy, and collaboration. I believe therapy is never a one-way street. It is a shared process of learning, growing, and healing. My role is to walk beside you, support your goals, and provide a safe and affirming space for your journey.
